1. Inari Station

Inari Station

Take at Kyoto station the JR Nara line (brown) in direction Joyo (Platform 9). Get off at Inari station. There is only one exit to leave the station. It leads you directly to the Fushimi Inari Shrine. Just follow the crowd at this point.
2. The Fushimi Inari Taisha Entry

Start the tour with this impressive gate. It's the entry of the worldwide known and one of the most iconic sights in Kyoto, the Fushimi Inari Taisha. The Fushimi Inari Taisha is the head shrine of all Inari shrines in Japan which are around 30,000. Be aware, to go to the top of this shrine you'll need a good condition and definitely something to drink.

Made in 711 AD the Fushimi Inari Taisha comprises around 10,000 pieces of these vermillion red gates. Among Japanese people the color is considered to protect humans against the evil forces. The foxes, you can find all over the mountain, are known as messengers of Inari Okami (God of the foxes and the fertility).

Need some power after or before hiking up the mountain? Then this narrow street full with street food is just perfect. No worries the street food in Japan is known for being good, stomach-friendly and delicious. If you continue walking down this street you'll find some souvenir shops.
Transfer to the Bamboo Forest
Admission: (Train from Inari 240 yen)
Go Back to the Inari Station and take the Nara line (brown) (Platform 1) back to Kyoto station (around every 20 mins). Switch here the trains one time. Look for the San-In line (purple) (Platform 32). Alight the train at Saga-Arashiyama Station and keep on following the route.
5. Main street Arashiyama

The main street of Arashiyama contains several shops such as souvenir, street food or restaurants. Of course there is also a pet cafe. Cross the street first and enter the small street to enter the bamboo forest. In the small maze keep left at the fork.
6. Bamboo Forest

The famous Bamboo Forest of Arashiyama. It's a place of pilgrimage for every tourist around. And it's not without reason. It's a very impressive forest with tons of Bamboos.
7. Tenryuji Temple

One of the many places in Kyoto what is part of the UNESCO world heritage and the biggest Zen temple of Arashiyama. To the temple also belongs a beautiful garden. To enter the garden there is a fee of 500 yen. Next to the garden you can also enter the temple building for additional 300 yen. The opening hours are from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm
8. Kimono Forest & Arashiyama Station

The Kimono Forest is part of the small Arashiyama Station which is kind of hidden even it's a part of the main street. The station is a very small one and the good information the train can bring you back to Kyoto (Shijo-Omiya). The Kimono Forest consists of many pillars made of the Kimono fabric. There are many girls in Kimono to make pictures.
9. Togetsu-Kyo Bridge

To cross over the Katsura River you'll need to take the long Togetsu-Kyo Bridge. The Bridge connects the old town of arashiyama with the mountain area. After crossing over the river there is on the right hand side the monkey park.
10. Monkey Park

The last place to visit in this tour is the Monkey park. You'll have to hike up the mountain for around 20 mins to come to the top. On your way you'll have to face already some of the monkeys. Be careful they are really skilled thieves and like especially plastic bags and cameras. Before you start your hike don't forget to grab something to drink. There are vending machines at the entry and a store on the top.
